Humbert comes on like a familiar thought that
you can't quite place, but feels warm and universal and momentous.
Swirling intimate melodies that dig deep, open a
hole that lets in sunshine, then spits it all out as a pink, fuzzy,
noisy,
humming kinda feeling. Since 1997, Humbert spend
much time in their art collective - a recording and rehearsal space
in Hialeah, Florida, "The Shack North". There
thoughts come to life. Art, lights, colors, instruments, inventions and
toys
all fill the space that helps formulate what is
Humbert.
Once upon a time, there was a band called
I Don't Know. The eclectic and worldly "IDK" toured the country and was
receiving attention from major labels just as
their singer/accordionist Mark Ruiz decided to retire from performing.
Rather than search for a replacement rock and
roll accordion player, Ferny Coipel (vocals/guitar/organs/etc), Izo
Besares
(drums/vocals) and Tony Landa (bass/vocals)
decided that it was time for a change in musical direction and in 1997,
Humbert was born. Since then, they have released
critically acclaimed records. They have showcase at SXSW in Austin
and CMJ Music Marathon in NYC. They have opened
for The Dead Milkmen, Apples in Stereo, Guster, Ween, Superdrag,
Roger Waters, Denny Laine of Wings and even
Miami pop/freestyle legends Expose. Go figure. Over the years, they
have
been named Best Pop Band and Best Rock Band by
Miami New Times, Best Indie Band by City Link Magazine, Band To Watch
For by Creative Loafing, Best Live Band by South
Florida ABC affiliate WPLG and "maybe the best band ever out of Florida"
by
All Music Guide. Their 2003 album Plant The
Trees Closer Together made The Big Takeover's Top 40 and was named Best
Indie
Release by Miami Herald's Street Magazine.
Humbert, which now also includes guitarist Jorge
Hernandez, along with Coipel, Besares and Landa will celebrate their
first ever
vinyl release - a 7" single with a cover of Lou
Reed's "Perfect Day" on the A-side and a previoulsy unreleased Humbert
track
"You Said" on the B-side, by finally returning
to the stage for the first time since February 2020.
